Program Notes

It is with exceeding delight that we offer this evening of the music of our guest of honor, Grayston Ives, who will be front and center for our February subscription concerts. This multi-talented Grammy nominated composer, arranger, conductor and singer, was a member of the King's Singers from 1978-1985, he collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney on the work Ecce Cor Meum, for eighteen years was the conductor (Informatur Choristarum) of the boys and men at Magdalen College, Oxford, and now he composes full time.

Our concert of Grayston's music (who goes by Bill, which was a childhood nickname), Sacred and Profane is a reflection of the many arenas in which Ives, the composer and arranger, walks. The first half of the concert will feature the American premiere of his Requiem, a work of sublime and tender beauty, composed for the 550th anniversary of Magdalen College, for which Ives has re-scored for organ and mixed voices for this concert. The second half of the concert will feature an array of Bill's delightful secular offerings, including English, Welsh and Irish folk songs and part songs, American popular songs, arrangements of Beatle's favorites and a not-to-be-missed witty encore that will have you rolling with laughter.
