In The Isle, Caroline Shaw sets monologues from William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Of the piece, Shaw writes:
“The Isle begins with a cloud of murmuring voices — a musical imagining of something hinted at in Shakespeare’s stage directions in The Tempest. The calls for “a burden, dispersedly” and “solemn music” suggest an off-stage refrain and/or perhaps something even more otherworldly.
Throughout this concert we play with the otherworldly, dream-like state – we explore love, discover the earth, and unravel time. Don’t miss works by acclaimed composers Shara Nova, Meredith Monk, Philip Glass and more!
Come see what happens when WFC collaborates with violin, organ, electronics, and dance. Expect the unexpected.
